I would rather tell the story than write another guide
We spent three nights in Marrakech as a couple with two friends. It was short, but enough to see several sides of the city and enjoy the atmosphere without trying to race through everything.
I am not going to list every single thing you are supposed to see. There are already plenty of guides for that. I would rather share the places I saw, the atmosphere that stayed with me and the photos I actually wanted to keep.
What I liked was the change of pace. Marrakech can feel lively and intense, then suddenly much calmer when you step into a garden, a riad or head up to a rooftop.
Koutoubia
It is difficult not to notice it. With the light, the colour of the stone and a completely clear sky that day, it was a simple scene but one I wanted to photograph.
I like keeping this kind of picture in a travel journal. Not because something extraordinary necessarily happened at that exact moment, but because it takes me straight back to the atmosphere of the trip.
Majorelle Garden
After the busier streets, the contrast is obvious. The blue, the plants, the cacti and the palm trees make it feel completely different from the rest of the city.
Interiors, architecture and the medina
There were also plenty of things I photographed simply because of the details: floors, arches, doors, colours and the way the light falls in certain places.
Then there are the medina and the souks. This was probably one of the parts I enjoyed the most: people everywhere, noise, shops, narrow passages and never quite knowing what you are going to come across next. It can feel slightly chaotic, but that is also a big part of the charm.
One thing I liked much less was seeing animals used to entertain tourists, including monkeys and snakes. You can come across it in the busiest tourist areas, but personally it was not something I enjoyed seeing.
A trip is not only about sightseeing
A big part of the pleasure was the food. I loved eating Moroccan dishes throughout the stay: couscous, tagines and then the sweet pastries for dessert. I cannot remember the name of everything we tried, but we definitely enjoyed ourselves.
I also like keeping the more ordinary moments: breakfast on a rooftop, tea, dinner in the evening. Those are often the photos that bring a trip back most easily.
Only three nights, but enough to make me want to return — for the atmosphere, the souks, the food and that mix of calm and energy you find all over Marrakech.
